Chester is a city which is based in the county of Cheshire and it is very much in the eastern parts of England. It is also close to the Welsh border. The population of the city is estimated at around seventy nine thousand and the urban metropolitan area has a population of over three hundred and thirty thousand. The city is twinned with Sens, Lakewood and many other towns.
Historically the city was formed back in 1541 and has had Roman influence through the forts and its main roads. Such roads include Northgate, Watergate, East gate and others. It has also been an Army base for Romans and thus a key residence for many people concerned. It also has Saxon influence as well and it is these people who gave Chester its name. The Normans also had a great deal of influence in the area and much of the history can be seen through its main medieval buildings. Again like many other key cities Chester was influenced by the Industrial Revolution and this bought many transport links to the area including canals, railways, roads and also the formation of its main buildings such as the town hall and various museums.
Chester has a great deal of landmarks and these include the East Gate Clocks, City Walls, St Werburgh’s Abbey, The Heritage Centre, Chester Castle, Chester Racecourse, Grosvenor Museum, various war memorials, Gate Way Theatre, Zoological Gardens, Chester Music Society and of course the famous Chester Zoo. Chester comes under the CH1 post code area.
In terms of transport we have the Chester Railway Station which is the general station in contrast to the Chester Northgate which has been long closed. It has many trains to places like Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff, North Wales and also London via route to Euston.
